3 reasons why clean eating is bs

This is one of the most common misconceptions.

It's stopping so many people from making better lifestyle decisions. They think they have to go "all in" and give up all of their favorite foods in order to get any results. For others that can make the switch (my hat is off to you), it's still not delivering everything they want.

We're conditioned to believe that there's a certain group of "good and healthy" food to eat. And if we just stick to those all of our health, weight, or appearance goals will be met.
Truth is our bodies don't work like that. I wouldn't ever be able to stick to a "clean diet" and the great thing is I don't have to.

1- No one can even define what clean eating is. Ask 10 people and every one of them will have a different idea of what clean eating is. And when we don't know what rules to follow we don't know what's actually giving us results. What's working and what isn't? What's a must, what's optional, and what's unnecessary?
Do you just cut out super processed foods? Cut out hyper-palatable foods high in sugar and fat?
Some say cut out even fruit, which to me is just another pointer to how ridiculous the whole clean eating saga is.

2- It's overly restrictive. The best diet is one we can stick to for life. Clean eating for most people means eating a super boring and bland diet. No ultra-processed food, no sugar, no excess fat, sometimes even no salt (I guess you can salt your food with your tears of despair). Yes, when you eat this way it's very hard to overconsume calories. Very hard but not impossible. So here we get people who are technically doing everything right but just can't lose weight. Or you have people who can't get that tight and toned look so many of us want.

3-It denies the energy balance equation. Which are the basis for any weight change and a very simple concept. If we want to lose weight we must be in a negative energy balance or consume fewer calories than we expend. Eating clean can help with this, so can keto, paleo, or whatever diet is popular at the moment. But our bodies can't break this law.
The same goes in another direction. In order to gain weight calories consumed must be greater than the calories we expend.

I couldn't ever stick to eating clean. Which used to mean I had to pick between the food I like or the body I want. It had to be one or the other.

But there is a way to have both! Plus be healthy :)
